Feedback from crit sessions: week of 8-12 Feb
In no specific order:
• The structural properties of the materials you are working with is very important and not only the size and dimensions
• The architectural idea/concept can be informed by two very specific things in this project
o the function
o the technology

• As per Tom V: If you are going to express the three different functions as three different entities, really think about how and why they are different or the same and how this can inform what these spaces/places look like

Feedback from crit
Crit and general feedback 3 Feb 2010
For Monday:
•Bring what is asked for in the brief for Monday
In addition:
•Summarise your PST 1 into one A3 page, taking into consideration what you learned in the crit session today
•On one A3 page bring gumpole and marine ply information
•Meet in the studio at 10:00, but do not pin up yet
What was said in the crit today (in no specific order):
•Make conclusions of the information that you found for PST 1
•Think about each of the chosen functions – how can this be solved in more than one way in these specific circumstances for project 1
•How can functions double up/become another function at different times of the day
•Make sense of your own information, it is no use just copying things out of books
•In other words recording information is essential, but do not leave it at that – make sense out of it for the specific project you are working on (not generic)
•Try to communicate clearly what your are doing
•You are not designing a huge building, this is a shelter that will not have anybody working there, in other words it must run on its own.
•Find out what “the human bubble” is
•Find out what the “Hole in the wall” project in India is about
•As asked in class – you may change the form of the central load bearing core, but it must still have a footprint of 1m² and be 5m high. It is structural in the sense that you can attach things to it. The inside is not accessible, but need to house services like electrical and wifi equipment.
Remember also:
•Do not jump to conclusions too quickly – the projects for this year has been made longer than usual so that you have time to delve into research more before getting to a final answer
•Low tech presentation is fine – you do not have to make expensive colour copies to impress us
•Make sure of your spelling!
•Reference where you get your information from
•Start your own blog by the end of Feb and add your scanned profile sheet as the first entry

NB for Monday 8 Feb
Bring along information regarding the size of gumpoles (diameter and length) and also of marine ply (thickness and size of sheet). Know what the structural properties of these materials are (for example - how far it can span etc.
