Project 2

Sub Tropical Example

These are images kindly sent by Prof Walter Peters, please see his comments below

"This is a reproduction of Father Pfanner's original house at Mariannhill mission station (near Pinetown), 1882, in which he included a parasol (double) roof. When you explain the significance thereof, please also point out that the floor would have been elevated from the ground.

Kind regards, Walter Peters

See also some historic examples sent by Prof Peters, this is what he wrote about it: "As promised I am mailing you a few images of corrugated iron houses along the Old Main Line suburbs of Durban. 027 shows the landscaped context needed but, in all one should note that the wood & iron structure is elevated off the ground and rests on brick piers, today mostly concealed by plinths of various kinds. I hope these add thought to the project."
