Our new HOD, Prof Raman, said today that the standard of your work is high. Well done! He would, however, like to see more clearly how you inderstand the precedents that you have selected, what you have learnt from having studied them, and how you have applied the relevant prnciples. I suggest you show this in November. Good luck!

MILESTONE 2 PASSPORTS ARE AVAILABLE FROM BONGIWE

Congratulations on great PAD submissions! You may collect your pinned up work and models (and passports from Bongiwe) from 14h00 tomorrow. Feedback crits will be conducted as follows:
Jolanda: Tuesday, 28 Sep: 9h30 - 10h00, after STW until 12h00. Rest online as required.
Hermie: Online as required
Lisa: Wednesday, 29 Sep,... from 12h00

The CPUT Fundani unit (see http://edutechcput.wordpress.com/) is wanting to conduct two focus groups of around 6 students each, to get feedback on the working of our facebook group. I would really appreciate it if you would volunteer! It can happen at a time that suits you, and should not take to much of your precious ...time! And I would soooo appreciate it ;-) Please let me know if you would be willing to participate in one such session...so we can learn valuable lessons from your experience.

Hand in Monday

All students:
The Hand In on Monday is for Milestone 2. This is essentially the "last" hand-in for PAD. Last is in brackets, since PAD examiners will look at the whole body of work in the portfolio. BUT Monday is the last sketch/presentation hand-in. After that you move into the care of the STW people, with some input from us. You will be welcome to still keep e-mailing us if you need any input, however we will not be in the studio as often.
It is important that in November you pin up ALLthe Milestones so that examiners can see your progression over time. Therefore, in portfolio you must pin up 1,2 and 3.
You could right at the end render the final final building or build a final final model - because your design will still develop in certain aspects throughout the detailing phase too.

For Monday's crit: Bring along your TECHNOLOGICAL IDEA in the form of A TYPICAL LARGE SECTION, and the appropriate DEVELOPMENT OF ELEVATIONS. If possible, start already with your typical TECHNOLOGY SECTION MODEL. See you on Monday!

Working towards milestone 2

Thanks to all of you who came prepared today! Passports have been copied and available from Bongi at reception.

Please prepare the following for Wednesday's crit:
1. Write down you main idea/ concept in no more than 10 words.
2. Make a diagram(s) to represent your main idea/ concept.
3. Prepare a structural diagram in both plan and section.
4. Formulate a response to the comments you received today.
5. Formulate (summarise) your sustainable design responses.

Milestone 1 assessment on Monday

Monday's Milestone 1 assessment will happen as follows:
Michael's groups' work must be pinned up by 10h00, Lisa's by 11h30, Hermie's by 14h00 and Jolanda's by 15h30. Students will be handed a number to guide the sequence. Students will be present during the assessment of their own work, and receive personal feedback (5 - 10 minutes max.) If you have not pinned up your work within half hour from the start of your group timeslot, you will not receive personal feedback, only on the passport. The venues are as follows: Rm 2A: all Cecilia Forest work, 2B: Altydgedacht, and the studio: Fisantekraal. Good luck!

Skype crit

To those students whom I saw on Monday: I will not be available for a face to face crit for the rest of the week. However, you are welcome to join me for a skype crit tomorrow between 10 and 12. My skype address is Jolanda.Morkel Please get your diagrams in electronic format, pics of your models etc. If you want to, you can e mail me your sketches before then. Hope to "see" you there!
