Work for Monday 8 March

In groups of two you must prepare a PowerPoint presentation. It must have a maximum of 20 slides. You must print out the presentation in black and white and bring it also on a flash disk or cd. Make sure it works! Meet in at 10:00 in room 2c on Monday 8 March.

Climatic study
(Basic information available at Carleen in the printing room, you must also find your own.)

Use diagrams, pictures and words to compare the following two climatic regions: The sub-tropical area of St Lucia in Kwazulu Natal and the desert area of Windhoek in Namibia. Your must look at least at the following:
• Characteristics of the climate, for example rainfall, sun exposure, winter, summer, temperature etc.
• How it influences the form of a building for optimal sustainable design.
• Find suitable architectural precedent. The precedent must have been built after 1990, published in an architectural magazine and not a vernacular building.

Functional study
The book, Great Spaces: Flexible Homes is available at Bongiwe at reception for use for half an hour per group. You may scan images at the scanner at reception.

Compare your current living situation/s with an example from the book. With diagrams, pictures and words, describe similarities and/or differences by looking at least at:
• Space for sleeping
• Space for cooking/eating
• Space for bathing/ablution
• Space for working/studio

Enjoy!
